Why Students Should Be Allowed to Use Laptops in Class

Anyone involved in education at some point of life knows the importance of making notes. Indeed, taking down the main ideas allows processing tons of information effectively and reviewing it later if needed. Using modern technologies, such as laptops or tablets, one can take notes faster and work with larger volumes of information, which is an indisputable advantage.

Nevertheless, at some educational establishments, the use of a laptop in class is still forbidden. Such policies seem unreasonable and outdated. And here is why:

  • Typing is faster than handwriting. It can be hard to keep up with the teacher’s pace, and a laptop is a perfect solution here. One can type fast and rearrange the notes if needed. As a result, electronic notes are neat, well-organized and time-saving.
  • Electronic notes are easier to operate. Organizing the text, changing it, completing it if needed, sending text files to your classmate – these are some of the advantages, which laptops offer. Moreover, spellcheck and grammar check make sure that the information is taken down correctly.
  • Students’ work is more efficient with technologies. Laptops and tablets are things that the young generation has been using since childhood. Working with electronic documents, editing texts and typing is easy and natural for students nowadays. Clearly, these devices can make the studying process more convenient for them.
  • Additional information can be found. Looking up some terms, finding examples or some facts in class can really enrich the learning experience for the whole group. In addition, the teacher can send supplementary materials for the students to follow during the lectures. In fact, many colleges and universities already allow such a practice.

As you can see, the use of technologies in class has numerous advantages, which cannot be disregarded. In order for the education methods to be effective, they need to comply with the progressive nature of the modern world. Undoubtedly, allowing using laptops in class would be a big step towards a new, more efficient and much more interesting way of learning.
